Loudoun County Courthouse Fence Ornament

$15.00

The design for this handcrafted pewter ornament is found in the beautiful iron fence surrounding the Loudoun County Courthouse, in Leesburg, Virginia.
Reportedly, an iron fence confined over 500 Union soldiers captured during the Battle of Ball's Bluff, in October 1861. Court records provide a receipt dated June 1874 showing a purchase of a new iron fence and removal of the old one for $1337. The current courthouse was built in 1894, on the site of the previous structure. A known 1900 photo shows this same fence already in place.
Standing for well over a century, its beauty has graced the lawn of our county seat. It is quite lovely, and well known for its unique pivoting gates.

Approximately 3.25" tall, with a white ribbon. Comes boxed and with a write-up of the history.

We hope you enjoy this handcrafted K&S pewter ornament.
